Microsoft Windows XP is an advanced and feature-rich Operating System that is part of the Windows NT family. Microsoft Windows XP was first released in 2001 after being in development for a few years. Microsoft Windows XP, as with many of the Windows Operating System, was released in Home and Professional editions, both of which were often bundled in with new computers as if often the case with Windows Operating Systems and the larger manufacturers and retailers.
Microsoft Windows XP came with three major service packs which were released a year, three years and eight years respectively after the release of the actual Operating System. These service packs hoped to fix common bugs and problems with the OS, including minor bugs and security fixes. The second service pack also came with Wi-Fi capability, a pop-up blocker (for use on the Internet Explorer 6 web browser), Bluetooth support and more.
Microsoft Windows XP was succeeded by Windows Vista in 2007 and mainstream support for the Operating System stopped in 2009. For over a decade Windows XP was the most widely used Operating System in the world.
