Sarahah is an anonymous messaging app that allows your friends and colleagues to give you honest and constructive feedback.
Any person who has your Sarahah ID can send you a message without revealing their identity. While you can like/favourite the messages you get, you cannot respond. Therefore, it’s a one-way communication aiming at receiving honest feedback or suggestions from your peers.
Created by a Middle Eastern developer, Zain al-Abideen Tawfiq, the app was an instant hit with millions of registered users in Tunisia, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. In 2017, the app beat every other free app in the App Store to become the Number 1 free app in the world. The app is fairly simple to use. Go to the app site and register yourself with your email ID. Once you create an account, you can share your ID with anyone that you want. To send a message, you don’t even need an account so you can just click on the user ID of the person and write your heart out.
Some critics have accused Sarahah of promoting bullying and harassment. Bullies find an easy way to target their victims through Sarahah. However, we know that an app cannot be blamed for human behaviour. It’s upon us to use it the way we prefer.
